Since its founding more than 70 years ago, Grupo Bimbo, the largest baking company in the world, has demonstrated its profound commitment to protecting the environment.

Mexico City, November 07, 2018.- Grupo Bimbo, socially responsible company, aware of the negative effects inappropriately managed plastic waste can have on the environment, is restating its global commitment to reduce the use of plastic along its value chain by making 100% of packaging made from recyclable materials by 2025.

One of the initiatives underpinning this commitment is the incorporation of oxodegradable technology in its packaging materials, which has been used for over a decade as a means to biodegrade residues that in places where, for whatever any reason, are not appropriately disposed of.

In addition, all Grupo Bimbo plants around the world, promote circular economy practices with suppliers, in order to generate recycling of secondary packaging and reduce waste within their operations.

Likewise, the company participates in after-consumption recycling programs in several countries where it has operations, such as: Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom, among others.

Grupo Bimbo is now stating its 2025 goal of reinforcing this strategy, specifically around plastic and packaging, by:

· Designing and innovating technologies to reduce plastic usage and continue betting on innovative and environmentally friendly solutions to have recyclable and compostable materials.

· Having 100% of Grupo Bimbo’s packaging made with recyclable materials (80% today).

· Identifying and eliminate plastic surplus in its manufacturing processes.

· Ensuring that paper and cardboard come from certified sustainable sources.

· Promoting reuse and recycling of secondary packaging among suppliers.

· Ensuring all suppliers’ post-industrial waste is recycled in their processes.

· Promoting and participating in post-industrial and post-consumption recycling partnerships, including communication with consumers and developing infrastructure for managing materials.

These are just some of the actions through which Grupo Bimbo restates its commitment to generate sustainable solutions to make this world a better place.
