Today Barcel Occidente Plant started operations, built in Jalisco State, and will be intended for the manufacture and distribution of Snacks and Confectionery in 4 different production lines, counting among them the most successful brands of the company Takis and Chips.
Don Roberto Servitje, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Bimbo, Daniel Servitje, CEO of Grupo Bimbo and Gabino Gómez, General Director of Organización Barcel cut the ribbon to add a new plant to the 14 facilities that Barcel already had in this State. As a witness of honor attended by Governor of Jalisco, Aristóteles Sandoval, who was accompanied by Minister of Economic Development, José Palacios Jiménez and the Mayor of Guadalajara, Ramiro Hernández García.
Gabino Gómez pointed out that the products line that will be manufactured at this plant will be distributed in Mexico, United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Guatemala, Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica and Panama. He was positive about the possibility of expanding the demand response of the West and Northwest regions of our country.
He noted the significant progress made in the recent years with the goal of reformulating their products to meet the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), in terms of the elimination of trans fat, reduction of saturated fats and sodium. Gabino Gómez stressed that for each of these ingredients, Barcel has overcome the timing for the goals set by the WHO and will remain on this path to continue to innovate for the benefit of consumers.
Daniel Servitje meanwhile, said that Barcel Occidente Plant was built based on the three pillars that Grupo Bimbo established to reduce the environmental footprint of its operations. Carbon Footprint, Water Footprint and Integrated Waste Management, this axes are now incorporated in every production stage.

Under the World Water Day, it is essential to remember the shared responsibility we must assume all actors, public and private, to safeguard the vital liquid and make the most efficient use on a daily basis, within the industry production processes or human consumption, said Mr. Servitje. With our treatment and saving water programs, in our plants, in 2010 we achieved 70% reuse of treated water.
In this regard, Gabino Gómez said Barcel Occidente Plant will be immediately in a position to apply for Clean Industry certification granted by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), (BRC Standard established by the British Retail Consortium) and Safe Company, which is granted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare. Governor Aristóteles Sandoval stated that the presence of companies like Barcel is a clear sign of confidence in Jalisco State, in its people and infrastructure that has been serving the productivity and competitiveness of the industry.
