Grupo Bimbo is proud to be part of the signatories from every sector of society and every corner of the world that joined the Paris Pledge for Action, with the objective to work and support the efforts to meet and surpass the governments’ agreement to maintain global temperature considerably under 2 degrees Celsius.
Grupo Bimbo, a proudly Mexican global enterprise, celebrates the adoption of a new universal agreement on climate change at the Paris COP 21, which is a critical step on the road to overcome challenges and problems derived from climate change, and though it, commits itself to work so the objectives are achieved and even surpassed.
The agreement signed in Paris will take effect in 2020. However, Grupo Bimbo and the rest of the signatory organizations will work individually and cooperatively before the agreement comes into force, in reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and to a safe level and create resilience to the changes occurring today.
In this regard, Daniel Servitje, Grupo Bimbo Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, stated: “We are very proud to belong to the group of companies and organizations which are fully committed to the protection of our planet. In Grupo Bimbo we have integrated environmental sustainability by taking measures to reduce the environmental impact and our value chain’s contribution to climate change with actions, such as the use of renewable energy sources through our Piedra Larga wind farm in the State of Oaxaca. It is the largest in the world, entirely dedicated to the food industry and the implementation of a forefront Palm Oil Procurement Policy to protect the world’s forests. All of us who work in this company are aware that together: the government, the private sector and society we can transcend and leave a better planet for generations to come.”
Noteworthy among other actions that Grupo Bimbo has taken, is that in 2014, the Company signed the ONU, Forest Declaration supporting a global timetable to reduce half of the deforestation in the world by 2020 and fight to totally eradicate it by 2030. It is also important to highlight the inauguration of Ecological Sales Centers (in Mexico City and Guadalajara), which are supplied with energy from the Piedra Larga wind farm, having a fleet of electric vehicles developed with Grupo Bimbo’s technology, thus embodying the implementation of the best practices for water saving, waste management and renewable energy usage
