ZERO WASTE
We promote the circular economy and waste reduction across the value chain by implementing sustainable packaging, efficient operations, and reducing food and water waste.
By 2030, we want to ensure that 100% of our packaging supports a circular economy, waste reduction, sustainable packaging, efficient operations, reduction of water consumption, and food waste.
At Grupo Bimbo, packaging optimization projects are considered a priority and are included in our strategy. We guarantee the quality and safety of every product that reaches the hands of our consumers, while at the same time implementing strategies to prevent waste at all stages of our value chain.
We consistently seek new technologies for recyclable, renewable and recycled materials to minimize our impact to the environment.
We have achieved the reduction of 5.4 million kilograms of plastic packaging from 2010 to date.

Because we know how important teamwork is, we promote recycling, correct waste management, and develop alliances to reduce environmental impact. Some associations we work with globally, are:
- Central America: ANDI
- Mexico: ECOCE
- Canada: Canada Plastics Pact
- United States: Terracycle
- Among others...

We are committed by 2025 to reduce food waste generated in our operations by 50% vs. international protocols.
By 2023, we are continuing the “War on Waste” (WOW) initiative, achieving that 99% ofthe waste we generate goes to sustainable processes, such as composting and animal feed.

We make efficient use of water, treat and reuse it in all our operations.
We encourage responsible use of water through:
- Optimization of cleaning processes.
- Technologies that allow us to treat and reuse water from our processes.
- Alternative sources, such as rainwater harvesting.
- Collective participation through alliances with water funds.
By 2023, we have 97 wastewater treatment plants globally, which allow us to reuse wastewater in different processes.
