For 7 years now, the Spanish NGO CESAL, the Mexican NGO CRECEMOS-DIJO with the support of the Renovalia companies known in Mexico as DEMEX, together with Grupo Bimbo have promoted the “Aerogubiños” socio-sporting school of the Real Madrid Foundation. This school is part of the institutional agreement signed by the NGO CESAL and the Real Madrid Foundation that promotes this project model throughout the world and is located in the state of Oaxaca on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. It is an area where there are social problems that primarily affect young people, thus hindering the community’s social development.
The agreement was renewed today and will continue the initiatives that are implemented throughout the school. The objective is to improve the quality of life of girls, boys and youth from the community of Unión Hidalgo through sports and proper use of free time, thus awakening possibilities and opportunities for their healthy physical, cognitive, emotional and social development.
Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations for Real Madrid stated, “We like to establish stable, long-lasting relationships, especially when it has been demonstrated that they are beneficial for children in need of support.”
The model for the sports and events school of the Real Madrid Foundation takes an approach involving socio-sporting, academic, nutritional and community activities. Family involvement is a strategy that is present in all initiatives. The promotion of values, respect for human rights, and gender equity are cross-cutting themes that characterize this intervention model.
All of this is done through soccer, an activity that is very dear to the communities. In the words of Pablo Llano, General Director of the NGO CESAL: “Sports not only contribute to improving health and the use of free time, but can also be a real engine for personal and social development for young people and their communities.”
In addition, the “Our Future Is Green: Education to Fight Climate Change” project will be promoted through the company Renovalia that together with Grupo Bimbo supports the school through its Mexican subsidiary DEMEX. José Manuel Olea, CEO of Grupo Renovalia, stated, “Our aim, in addition to promoting the socio-sporting school, is to respectfully raise awareness of the environment and to tackle the issues surrounding it.”
Corporate Treasurer at Grupo Bimbo Tania Dib added, “At Grupo Bimbo we are committed to the holistic development of the boys, girls and youth where we have a presence. That’s why we are very pleased to participate in this project that promotes a combination of academics, sports and healthy eating among children and youth in order to foster healthy lifestyles and to contribute to a better world for present and future generations.”
Since 2013, the school has provided assistance to more than 1,000 girls, boys and youth for sports and nutritional-awareness activities. In total, 500 families and five public schools from the area have participated.
