Coahuila y Baja California Norte were crowned champions of The Bimbo Soccer Tournament

The Instituto Británico de Coahuila and the el Colegio Arca of Baja California Norte were crowned National Champions of the 2016 Futbolito Bimbo cocker tournament.

Today, after three months of competition, the Great National Final Match of the 2016 Futbolito Bimbo soccer tournament took place at the Plaza de los Mártires in the Historic Center of Toluca, State of Mexico, where the National Champions of both branches became known. The event had the presence of Laura González Hernández, Undersecretary of Industrial Development of the State of Mexico.

The women’s final was between Rubén Darío elementary school from Culiacán, Sinaloa and the Instituto Británico from Torreón, Coahuila with a final score of 6-0 giving the victory to the Instituto Británico from Torreón. In the men’s branch the Colegio Arca de Tijuana, Baja California Norte and the Colegio Euroamericano from Monterrey, Nuevo León with a 0-0 score at the end of the second half and a match final score of 3-2 in penalties with which the Colegio Arca from Tijuana won the crown. The children from the four teams demonstrated their talent and excellent teamwork which confirms their deserved place in the final.

The awarding ceremony was lead by Juán Nosti, Bimbo Marketing VP, Jesús Espinosa, Bimbo Commercial VP, Francisco Reza, from the Bimbo Marketing Department and Paula Sandoval, Cantera Project who handed out the trophies and medals to the winning teams.

Players with an outstanding performance during the tournament were also acknowledged during the awards ceremony:

  • Best Scorers: Samara Madrigal from Coahuila and Daniel Hidalgo from Baja California.
  • Best Goalkeepers: Sofía Cortines from Coahuila and Marcos Naranjo from Baja California.
  • Highest number of Positive Reinforcement Green Cards: Adrián Cabañas, Technical Director from Sinaloa and Marcos Naranjo from Baja California.

Juan Nosti, from Bimbo stated: “We are very pleased to celebrate one more final match of the Futbolito Bimbo soccer tournament that has become the most awaited event of its kind among children. Those who participated in Futbolito Bimbo take with them a great sports experience where besides being physically active, also found in this tournament friendly relations with other children, fun family life, and having lived the values such as teamwork and perseverance.”

“This match was a fight between the different teams, but at the end, all are winners.” Likewise, he invited children to continue exercising and having fun while doing it.

The Futbolito Bimbo soccer tournament champions will now prepare their bags to travel to Philadelphia to play in a friendly match with the champions of the USA B-Active tournament and after, they will enjoy Orlando, Florida with all expenses paid.

Futbolito Bimbo is a 50-year old initiative which is part of a set of activities that Grupo Bimbo carries out to promote in society, physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle. The 2016 edition started last April 9 and had the participation of over 57 thousand children from 45 cities in Mexico.

This tournament is the only one in its category that has a “Tarjetón Verde reforzamiento positivo®” (Positive Reinforcement Green Card) from Proyecto Cantera (Cantera Project). This is an instrument to be used by tournament referees, who besides sanctioning players with the traditional yellow or red card, have the possibility of acknowledging good behaviors in and outside the field. The card promotes the recognition of those actions that deserve to be highlighted among players, coaches and family members.
