NET ZERO CARBON EMISSIONS

We are working to reduce our carbon footprint and move toward cleaner, more responsible operations. Our approach is based on integrating strategies that promote emissions reduction, efficient use of resources, and collaboration throughout our value chain.

Scope 1: Direct Emissions

We focus on reducing direct emissions from our operations by implementing cleaner technologies, modernizing equipment and processes, and phasing out the use of fossil fuels:

  • Sustainable mobility: We are promoting a cleaner, more efficient fleet through optimized routes, telemetry, and the gradual introduction of electric vehicles, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
  • Elimination of fossil fuels: We are moving toward energy alternatives such as ethanol, renewable propane, and emerging technologies to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels in our processes and transportation.
  • Furnace decarbonization: We are promoting cleaner thermal processes by adopting efficient technologies, exploring fuels with a lower carbon footprint, and continuously improving the energy performance of our furnaces, thereby reducing emissions associated with their operation.
  • Natural refrigerants: We are replacing traditional refrigerants with natural and next-generation options that have a lower global warming potential to reduce emissions in our cooling operations.

Scope 2: Electric Power and Indirect Consumption

We prioritize the transition to renewable energy sources at our facilities and in our operations by signing supply agreements with clean energy producers and developing our own renewable energy generation projects, such as solar panels:

  • Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Buildings: We design more efficient facilities by optimizing energy consumption and applying criteria of sustainability to infrastructure in order to reduce emissions and improve environmental performance.
  • Renewable energy: We are moving toward the exclusive use of renewable electricity through our own solar panels and supply agreements (VPPAs, PPAs, RECs) with wind and solar sources.
  • Storage systems: We incorporate storage technologies, such as lithium-ion batteries, to ensure clean and stable energy, maximizing the use of renewable sources.
Scope 3: Value Chain and Indirect Emissions

Recognizing that a significant portion of our emissions comes from the value chain, we work closely with our suppliers and strategic partners to reduce indirect emissions. This includes adopting practices that promote sustainability and innovation, promoting low-carbon processes, and providing technical support for their energy transition:

  • Low-carbon supply chain: We collaborate with suppliers to reduce emissions across the value chain through the BEAR program, training, and the adoption of clean technologies.
  • Sustainable outsourced mobility: We promote more efficient logistics by collaborating with transportation providers, encouraging the adoption of cleaner technologies and operational practices to optimize routes, reduce unproductive trips, and lower emissions generated by outsourced transportation within our value chain.
  • Cross-cutting actions: We promote comprehensive actions that regenerate soils and ensure a deforestation-free supply, reduce waste and strengthen circularity in our processes, and restore ecosystems through reforestation and conservation projects, collectively contributing to reducing our environmental footprint and protecting natural resources.
