Osito Bimbo´s First Steps

The company’s public image came from a portrayal of a bear cub that Jaime Jorba had designed for a Christmas card. His wife, Anita Mata, added the baker´s hat, the apron and a loaf under the Osito´s “arm.” Alfonso Velasco fixed its nose.

It’s the same Osito Bimbo that today characterizes Grupo Bimbo for tenderness, impeccable cleanliness and soft textures.

We began to produce the Osito Doughnuts and the new line of buns: Bimbollos, Medias Noches, and Colchones.

These decades marked the beginning of the first administrative reorganization that made Lorenzo Servitje General Director.

We built the biggest bread bakery in all Latin America—one of the world’s ten largest.

We went public and 15% of shares began to be traded on the Mexico National Stock Exchange.

We chartered the OLA (Organización Latinoamérica) to oversee expansion south of the Mexican border.

Incursions into the East Asia market and US coastal areas; Chocolates La Corona and the El Globo bakeries integrate into GB.
