Today, Bimbo received from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) the recognition of "Empresa Segura" (Safe Company) for the Suandy Plant, as well as carrying out the registration to the Self-Management in Health and Safety at Work Program (PASST) for the Hazpan Plant. This program recognizes those who implement preventive programs to safeguard their employees in terms of reducing accidents and illnesses, as well as complying with safety and health regulations while adhering to national and international standards.

The event was attended by Mtro. David Arellano Cuan, Undersecretary of Social Security of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security; Mtro. Ignacio Rubí Salazar, Secretary of Labor for the State of Mexico; Ing. Miguel Ángel Espinoza Ramirez, General Director of Bimbo S.A. of C.V; C. Ruperto Almeida Hernández, Municipal President for the Lerma City Council; Mr. Juan Manuel Martínez Nava, Federal Delegate for Labor in the State of Mexico; Mr. Gerardo Cortés García, General Secretary of the National Union of Similar and Related Workers in the Flour, Bakery, Food, Transport, and Trade Industry of the Mexican Republic; Mr. Germán Mendoza Rivera, General Director of Safety and Health at Work; and Mr. Horacio Mejía Sánchez, Secretary General of Section 17 of the National Union.

In 2006, Bimbo joined the Self-Management in Health and Safety at Work Program (PASST), with the aim of safeguarding the well-being of those who work in the company. In 2015, it signed an Agreement with the STPS in order to commit the registration of all its plants in the country to the Program. Since then, 28 places of work have joined the program, in which more than 10,000 people work, and, of these, 11 already have the recognition of "Empresa Segura".

One of the factors that the STPS values in order to grant this recognition is the accident rate, which must not exceed a maximum of 0.73 accidents per 100 employees. In the case of Bimbo, it has been possible to obtain a rate below this value, with 0.40 accidents per 100 employees. In this sense, and on its way to consolidate a culture of safety among all its associates, the commitment is that by 2020 all of its workplaces are enrolled in the Program.

"Since our foundation more than 70 years ago, people have always been the most important value for the company. Therefore, we are committed at all times to offer safe and healthy work environments, always adhering to the highest local and international standards,” commented Miguel Ángel Espinoza Ramírez, General Director of Bimbo México.

For his part, the Undersecretary of Social Security, David Arellano Cuan, during the delivery of awards, said that the Self-Management in Health and Safety at Work Program (PASST), is a preventive program, in which currently more than 5,000 workplaces participate.

“The PASST grants three levels of recognition and a revalidation of the third level of "Empresa Segura" to the workplaces, certifying advances in the establishment and operation of their management systems in occupational safety and health, compliance with the regulations in this specialty, the development of their programs in the matter, and the reduction of work accidents,” he said.

The Bimbo Security Model reinforces the main objectives in this matter: achieving zero accidents and consolidating a culture of safety, day by day.

This is achieved through actions such as correcting unsafe acts or conditions, informing all associates about the risks in their workplaces, promoting compliance self-assessment schemes, identifying risks, and establishing continuous improvements to avoid accidents, in addition to constantly exchanging good practices with different actors.

Likewise, the development and welfare of people is sought by implementing disease prevention campaigns, with spaces designated for physical activity and the certification of balanced dining halls within their workplaces, promoting programs that motivate employees to adopt healthy lifestyles, along with a model of road safety that implements driver training, safety devices in vehicles, and rigorous fleet maintenance programs. Bimbo was the first company in Mexico to certify its road safety model in the ISO 39001 Standard of Road Safety Management.

In this way, the most important bakery in the world continues to reinforce its Safety Model, through an ethical approach, seeking in the first instance to take care of the welfare of all those who collaborate in the company.
