Daniel Servitje, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Grupo Bimbo, received today in this city the Distinguished Leadership Award for Corporate Social Responsibility from The Inter-American Dialogue, a non-profit organization that engages global leaders to foster democratic governance, prosperity, and social equity in the Western Hemisphere.
This award, stated The Inter-American Dialogue, is given to Daniel Servitje in acknowledgement of his innovative efforts towards sustainable growth and the reduction of Grupo Bimbo’s environmental footprint. This organization considers Grupo Bimbo a role model to be followed in the region, since it has been able to meet its corporate social responsibility objectives without sacrificing the growth of its operations around the world.
“Daniel Servitje’s effective leadership as Chairman of Grupo Bimbo is a source of inspiration for companies,” stated Carlos Gutiérrez, former Secretary of Commerce of the United States of America and Cochairman of the Albright Stonebridge Group, who presented the award. “Grupo Bimbo’s successful global expansion demonstrates that it is possible to grow and remain true to its corporate values.”
During the awards ceremony, Daniel Servitje stated: “I receive this award on behalf of the 140,000 men and women, who are part of Grupo Bimbo around the world, and who share the same mission of Nourishing a Better World.” He added that “currently, four areas of corporate social responsibility have become essential for companies: it is necessary to take better care of those working in the company and the communities, as well. Leaders have to commit themselves to innovation to address new challenges. Caring for the environment should be the essence of corporate social responsibility and, integrity should be understood not only as compliance with the law, but as something that goes beyond and is to be part of the culture of any organization.”
The Distinguished Leadership Award for Corporate Social Responsibility is bestowed to individuals who have dedicated their lives to the Dialog’s mission: advancing democratic governance, social equity, and prosperity in the Western Hemisphere.
Today, other awarded personalities were Ms. Esperanza Cueto Co-Founder of ComunidadMujer and President of the Fundación Colunga, who received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Women’s Rights and Empowerment; the poet Richard Blanco received the Distinguished Leadership Award for Outstanding Cultural Contributions.
