Today, the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente, PROFEPA) acknowledged Grupo Bimbo and a group of its main suppliers for their participation in the Environmental Leadership for Competitiveness Program (PLAC, for its acronym in Spanish). Its objective is to improve the environmental management of value chains through the development of eco-efficiency projects to reduce the environmental impact, generate economic savings and increase the competitiveness of companies.

Present during the event were Pablo César Tamez Molina, Federal Delegate of the PROFEPA; Fulvio Mendoza Rosas, Director General of the Organization for the Sustainable Entrepreneurial Development (Organización para el Desempeño Empresarial Sostenible) and Leopoldo Barba Córdova, Bimbo S.A. de C.V., Procurement Director.

This effort was done by the Procurement and Operations Departments through the Sustainability area, with the purpose of adding to Bimbo’s environmental efforts eco-efficiency projects that can be implemented throughout the value chain between Grupo Bimbo and its suppliers. These projects can be such as changing lightning systems, implementing wastewater treatment plants, or responsible resource management, all of which represent important economic savings.

On his part, Leopoldo Barba Córdova, Grupo Bimbo Procurement Director in Mexico, acknowledged the commitment of the participating suppliers, who, like Grupo Bimbo, “are convinced of the need to privilege cooperation throughout the value chain, since reducing the environmental footprint relates to all players. In this regard, programs and initiatives in this area allow Grupo Bimbo and its suppliers to foster the wellbeing of individuals, as well as socioeconomic and environmental development”.
