In the framework of World Recycling Day, Grupo Bimbo reaffirms its commitment to caring for the planet by developing sustainable actions that, through the use of innovative technologies, promote reduction and recycling throughout the value chain, as well as through the design of packaging that is friendly to the environment.
At a global level, Grupo Bimbo implements different strategies to reduce and recycle, some of which are:
• In 2016 alone, through research and development in the use of packaging, a reduction of more than 55 thousand tons of plastic was achieved, and, since 2010, the use of more than 2.3 million kilograms of this material has been avoided within our packaging.
• 92% of the total waste from Grupo Bimbo’s production processes are reused and/or recycled.
• The company has been a pioneer in the use of degradable packaging in Latin America.
• Participation in Mexico, Brazil, Spain, England, and Canada in post-consumer recycling programs. In 2016, Grupo Bimbo in Mexico joined the voluntary initiative ECOCE to work together on a Post-consumer Management Plan. In 2017 it collaborated for the first time with ECOCE in the collection of waste to incorporate them back into a productive process through recycling.
• Grupo Bimbo has 30 plants with the practice of zero waste to landfill thanks to the implementation of recycling and waste to energy (co-processing).
“At Grupo Bimbo, we are committed to ensuring the efficient use of our resources day by day and incorporating technologies into our innovative processes that help us reduce our environmental footprint. We have taken important steps in the integral management of waste and we will continue working to fulfill the purpose of building a sustainable, highly productive, and fully humane company”, commented Jorge Zárate, Global Operations Director of Grupo Bimbo.
With these initiatives, Grupo Bimbo continues to work in a sustainable way to make this world a better place for present and future generations.
